Where is the best place to buy groceries?
A 5–7 minute walk (about 400 meters) takes you to the large Lidl supermarket, where you can find everything you need. If you want to try authentic Italian products, the neighboring streets have small family-run butcher shops (macelleria) with fresh meat, cheeses, and fruit stands offering local vegetables grown in Calabria.
Do we need a car to get around Amantea?
Not at all. Our apartments are perfectly located so that beaches, the promenade, restaurants, and shops are all within walking distance. Even the train station is only 400 meters away. You will only need a car if you plan to actively explore the remote corners of Calabria or mountain villages.
How long does it take to get to the Historic Center (Centro Storico)?
A walk to the old part of the town will take you about 10–15 minutes. The path goes slightly uphill but is incredibly scenic. You will pass through cozy residential streets and emerge at the main square and medieval quarters. It's the perfect route for an evening promenade before dinner.
Where can we have a delicious dinner nearby?
Along the entire Lungomare promenade, right in front of your building, there are numerous restaurants and pizzerias. Most of them specialize in fresh seafood and traditional Calabrian cuisine. I am always happy to recommend a couple of my favorite spots where they cook "for the locals."
Is there a pharmacy and medical assistance nearby?
Yes, the nearest pharmacy is located in the town center, about 100 meters from the house. There are also various doctors' offices available in town.
Are there local markets in the town?
Yes, traditional street markets take place in Amantea on certain days (usually Sundays). This is a unique opportunity to buy farmer's olive oil, the famous red onions from Tropea, homemade cheeses, and artisanal goods at great prices. I will be sure to tell you the exact time and location of the market upon check-in.
What is the most convenient way to travel to neighboring towns (Tropea, Pizzo)?
The most convenient way is by train. The Amantea train station is just a 5-minute walk away. Trains run along the coast very frequently, making it an excellent way to visit Pizzo (a 40-minute trip) or Tropea (about an hour) without worrying about finding parking in these popular tourist destinations.
